Designer and Illustrator Joel David Waldrep lives and works in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He is a graduate of the University of New Mexico, School of Fine Arts BFA Program.
In 2006 he opened his business identity, Volar Media LLC, and began working as a freelance designer. In 2007, Joel was given the golden opportunity to design books for a well known publisher and quickly became hooked on the process.
"Designing a book is similar to a jigsaw puzzle, the individual elements can be overwhelming and it forces you to be patient and organized. By taking your time the pieces will eventually snap into place and the whole process becomes very rewarding."
In 2011 he set out to change the mode of Volar Media from freelance design to independent publisher. Joel's GeoJumble Twist & Tumble Coloring Book, No.1 is his first self-published title.
"Creating the artwork for a series of coloring books has added a whole new dimension to my life. I can only hope these designs bring a smile to as many faces as possible."
Although Joel still relies heavily on freelance work to survive, he refuses to give up his dream as a book designer.
